I don't have a tower on my property, will putting one up cost me an arm and a leg?
They can range in price widely - from a few hundred dollars to a couple thousand. Under no circumstances are you required to have a tower installed to work with Detour's network, though you might require one for an optimal connection.
Do you do any "bandwidth throttling"? (wiki link)
Every ISP has to utilize bandwidth throttling in one way or another - but we would never do this maliciously. We do employ QoS (Quality of Service) algorithms to prioritize certain types of traffic over others - for instance, Voice or Video streaming over a simple webpage. This is standard even in a home or small business network. Under no circumstances do we look at the actual data passing over our network.
Do I need to have my own router?
Most homeowners switching from an existing provider will have a router already, and in this case, we'd strongly recommend that you continue to use it since it will make for an easy transition and is unlikely to cause any performance issues. Further, a home router adds an extra layer of protection between your 'net connected devices and the Internet. If you don't have one, we keep some in stock, and they range between $50 and $65 depending on what you need for the best service. You can also expect to pay a similar amount at an electronics store.
Can I adjust my plan up to faster packages or down to less expensive packages at will?
